In the Barn
Shaker farmers built circular barns so that the devil could not hide in the corners. In the Barn uses full-color pictures to show how the barn was the center of activity on a busy settler farm. Different kinds of barns are clearly detailed from the English and bank style barns in wooded areas to the sod barns of the western prairies.
Featured topics include:
• the fun of a barn raising bee
• the work of milking cows, winnowing grain, and mucking out stalls
• a tools and gadgets section
• seasonal activities including birthing, harvest, and winter storage
